PRAYING

......For God's favor on the city!

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!.... It is like the dew of Hermon…. There the Lord commanded the blessing—life forever.   (Ps. 133:1,3)

What would it be like to be in the middle of a Great Awakening, O God? We attend churches that seem so out of the mainstream. Faith seems so foreign, so irrelevant to our unsaved neighbors and friends. You are forgotten in a nation founded for your glory! How has it happened? We long for you to be the talk of the town, for the whole nation to know you again. Reintroduce yourself. Reveal your glory. Refuse to allow the darkness to ignore your glorious light. Silence the naysayers. Soften the hardest hearts. Redeem sinners. Turn dens of iniquity into saintly meeting houses. You did it before. You awakened whole nations. You turned back the clock of sin’s stronghold. You renewed your church and called pastors back to holiness. We long to see cities under the influence of the Spirit like the early morning fog socks in a community. Blind us to anything except your presence. Command blessing. Replace the death that stalks our communities with life! We can hardly imagine such a jolting show-stopping moment. Come to town God. Before your power, even the mighty tremble. It isn’t humiliation that we wish for enemies of the faith. It is rather a sobering encounter with the God they have ignored and doubted. Bring whole regions to a “ choose  you this day!” moment. Come, Lord. Touch the whole city. Awaken the whole nation. Amen.

Today’s Quote

Any church may have a mighty man of God for its pastor, if it is willing to pay the price, and that price is not a big salary, but great praying.

-R. A. Torrey

INTERCEDE

For the whole city to hear the gospel! Read accounts of the Great Awakenings. No, pray them! Pray specifically for God to raise up a catalyst. Volunteer yourself.

Prayer Exercise:

Find a dear saint who was in a “great revival.” Get them to tell you the story. Have them pray with you for God to “do it again.”
